Beautiful Swan Creek

One of my favorite camping sites is Swan Creek Campground. It is located in the scenic Gallatin Canyon, on the Bozeman Ranger District of the Gallatin National Forest, in southwestern
Montana. It is thirty one miles south of Bozeman. The Gallatin Canyon was always a great fishing
venue for myself and my sons. Highway 191 from Bozeman to West Yellowstone can
be very busy and noisy but the campsite is some distance from the road and very
quiet. The campground sits next to scenic Swan Creek, a tributary of the Gallatin River. A beautiful, dense forest of spruce and fir
trees covers the campground. After a good nights sleep in the cool temps of
5000 plus feet, we headed up a hiking trail birding and hoping to see other
wildlife at the “beaver meadow” some distance and 500 feet above our campsite.
Come on along as we head up the trail….

  3. Oh, I LOVE that drive from Bozeman to West Yellowstone along the river - one of the prettiest out there! We're always in such a hurry to get to the park we've not explored the by-ways at all, except for Hebgen Lake-Quake Lake, which are fascinating.
One of the advantages of retiring out there is we should have plenty of time to do some good National Forest hiking. We hope to have a dog - not just any dog, but KLK has his heart set on a GSD! They're not allowed on the trails in the National Parks, but no problem in the National Forests. Sigh...I can hardly wait until that day comes!

Thanks for reminding us of what can be.

  9. Beautiful place. I've only been to the Bozeman area in winter, back in my downhill skiing days. I think it might be a September destination for me.
