Up Close and Personal

For my Troutbirder blog  I do try to focus on a good story but a good picture is worth.... well you know that old cliché. . My  challenge with a little point and shoot camera is to get up close and personal. The key is to   talk to the little creatures in a calm and soothing manner, "now Mr. Grizzly Bear please hold still for just a minute while I get this shot." Sometimes it works. Often it doesn’t.  Well, ok, maybe the “ stand on the road , with the Grizzly in the ditch shot”, was a little too close for comfort. Sometimes these techniques don't work at all. Whales are tough getting to hold still.....

Maine Whale
Wisconsin Whitetail
Black Hills beggars
Female elk parking in Yellowstone
Colorado
Minnesota Snapper (very cooperative)
Minnesota wife (usually cooperative.)

  2. Pretty darn good for point and shoot. Camera technology is just amazing these days. Some of these shots really make me long for summer.

  3. Hi TB...as usual I love your sense of humor!! I can't believe you got so close to that bear! The "Hills Beggars" are adorable....were they wild? Thanks for some great shots!

  4. Nice set of photos - no close-up Grizzlies for me though! I'll bet Mrs. T is always cooperative!

  5. Hi There, We are back from a week in beautiful Arkansas. Hope you had a great week.

The Minnesota wife is my FAV.... She's a KEEPER for sure!!!!

Loved seeing the begging burros when we were at Custer. AND--the elk at Mammoth was NEAT. I'll show some pictures of the elk in my upcoming blog post on Wed.

    Have a great day.

  7. My love for birds forced me to get better cameras. I like to get close, and like with the griz maybe a bit too close.

  8. My Iowa wife would be the most uncooperative of all of the wild beasts. She runs if the intent to snap her comes to my mind. I like all of your shots. The bear is a little risky but if you were at a zoo that would have been different.

  9. Your wife poses for you? What a lucky man! Who cares for those flowers she is posing by?

  10. You did get close to that Grizzly! All your photos tell me a story -- that you love nature. And your wife seems to also.

  13. I'm going to have to learn your secret for getting the Minnesota wife to (usually) cooperate. I have a hard time getting pictures of a certain Tennessee wife. I think we may have encountered the same beggars and elk as you've captured.

  14. All very good shots -- but the grizzly bear? Crazy! :)

  15. You should have rode the bear around so you could take a traveling video through the eyes of a Grizzly. Just kidding-I wouldn't get close to a grizzly-cool photo!

  16. Remember "Wild Kingdom?" Marlon Perkins would be jealous of your shots! Amazing pics, especially the last one. She doesn't look like the kind that would bite.

  17. Haha! It took me a few moments to see that bear! Those donkeys are cute coming up to the car window. And it's nice that your lovely wife is usually cooperative for you. LOL! Too cute!
