Winter Wonderland

Still waiting  for a rehab report on my desktop. So  the balky laptop is recycling a 2010 weather report. Then it was lots of snow. Tonight the weather forecast predicts temperatures at -25 F.  Some wind too.
Yes here in Bluff  Country a.k.a the "Banana Belt" of southern Minnesota, we consider ourselves lucky to live in the warmer part of the state. Now  no  whining  when subfreezing temperatures  spread temporarily into the more southernly parts of the lower forty-eight, well. .... get a life folks!  GSD's love the cold weather. There are always squirrels and rabbits to chase.  Odds of catching something increase in the deep snow. Snowmobile trails are especially fun!

The key to warming up is to keep everyone involved in snow clearance operations.
After a very mild & late fall winter has definitely arrived here.
Well maybe not quite this much but still...................
Sleigh bells ring, are you listening, In the lane, snow is glistening A beautiful sight, We're happy tonight. Walking in a winter wonderland.

  1. I do remember snow that was taller than me when we lived in northern Illinois. Of course I was only three years old at the time. Snow tunnels are so much fun! Do you think it could be all of those snow blowers running up in your direction that's sending the Arctic blast down our way? Yes, I'm whining.

  3. Is it at all redeeming to say that high snowbanks can be insulating? :)

  4. It's been a nasty winter here too. The temperatures haven't been above the mid-teens in weeks. They had to send the snow plow from work to rescue me this morning:)

  5. Neat shots of Baron..but those last two photos are a bit scarey...more like a winter maze than a wonderland! I guess I will stop complaining about our two inches we received this morning and be happy that I can look out my window..and not have it blocked by snow!!

  6. Ohmygoodness! We were visiting our daughter and her family last weekend in Omaha and their snow was almost like yours... and then they got a bunch more this week! Don't know where they're putting it!!! Happy Winter, troutbirder. Secretly (as long as I don't have to go out), I love it! :-)

  8. Kia ora TB,
Quite a contrast to our humid green summer. Oh the memories of those childhood winters in Wisconsin. Happy New Year.
    Cheers,

  10. You are so right. Snow removal warms a person up quickly. Also, the right winter clothes help.

Gosh, clean white snow is so darn pretty.

  11. OH MY! the depth of the snow surrounding the walkway is phenomenal. I talked with a girlfriend in Rochester and she has been telling me of the snow. Stay warm.

  12. Hope all that snow doesn't melt too fast & flood everybody. The "northern neighbors" pic is amazing--we just don't get snow like that here in SW Montana unless you're on some peak at 10,000 feet. I do recall a few winters growing up downwind of the Great Lakes, though, when we had to tunnel out of the house. Sure don't miss shoveling that heavy stuff.

  13. OMG. This looks like a nightmare to me. I love snow, I guess because we have so little of it. If I had to deal with this kind of snow I don't know if I would like it so much. Does it go away anytime before spring?

  14. Hahaha! That is a lot of snows but I really didn't know about the "banana belt" in MinneSNOWda. Love the pictures, especially that last one. :-)

  15. I wish more folks had your attitude about winter. Hubby and I moved to the north for snow. Lots of great fun and the clothes nowadays are so good that keeping warm isn't a battle. Enjoy!

  16. Beautiful pictures. Reminds me of when I was small and we made caves in the snow. Happy Days, though I'm not sure I would like it now.

  20. That's right. Hand 'em a shovel and they warm right up! I bet your GSD could pull you on skis. Or hook him up to that snow blower. :-)

  21. And it ain't even winter yet. Keep warm and safe. "The key to warming up is to keep everyone involved in snow clearance operations" is terrific advice, particularly if they are 20 somethings.

  22. Maybe you should check. Your computer guy might be in Miami.

  23. I grew up in Minot, North Dakota. I have great memories of playing in gigantic snow drifts, ice skating, and playing king of the mountain. Thanks for the memories!

  24. Oh my gosh...you got a lot of snow! I like it, but that is a little much!

Be safe shoveling and moving the white stuff.

  25. The road in the woods is beautiful. The deep trough through the snow does not look like much fun.
