Troutfishing companions?
I went trout fishing down on the Root river the other day. Sometimes I invite a friend to join me, other times I take a "newbie" and show them the ropes. Often I go alone. It's not like fishing with a couple of other guys in a fancy bass boat joined by a case of beer. It works best for me solitary. Just the gurgle of the stream, the woods, birds flitting about and ones cares far away. Today, though some curious visitors joined me, as I crossed a pasture on the way down to the stream. They were friendly enough, although I had to tell them they couldn't follow me into the water, as that would panic my quarry. They were content with that. Quite an unusual audience.....

My brothers still fish for brook trout in New Hampshire. It is the holy grail of trout. The state dumps farmed rainbow trout into the streams, but as far as I know, no one has tamed the brook trout!
ReplyDeleteso cute!
ReplyDeleteCurious friends you had..next time take apples or carrots:)
ReplyDeleteThey look so sweet and curious!
ReplyDeleteOne of my uncles fished the high lakes of Oregon on a horse...this was in the 40's or so. It was a roper, and when knee-deep in a lake, when uncle Deke would hook a fish, would lean against it, like a calf roped.
ReplyDeleteI fish alone usually also, though I often feel many are there with me.
Wonderful pals to hang around with, if you ask me! Fantastic pictures, too! :-)
ReplyDeleteDon't know if you caught any fish but you "caught" some nice pictures of your new friends.
ReplyDeleteYou found some fun friends
ReplyDeleteThe best type of "companions" ... nice and quiet but there if you need them !
ReplyDeleteHaHa. Love it, and love horses!
ReplyDeleteTrout birder AND horse whisperer. I love your friends.
ReplyDeleteI once spent an afternoon (alone) fishing the headwaters of the Colorado River. While lost in my fly's drift I heard a noise. Looked up only to realize that I was sharing the stream with small herd of elk. Didn't really care that they had likely scared my trout away.
ReplyDeleteYah, as SFM says, just mount up and fish from horseback!
ReplyDeleteCute photos. The horses were probably hoping you had some oats or apples for them.
ReplyDeleteHow funny! Imagine inventing a new sport, fly horse fishing? The horses would at least bring the bait, buzzing round their ears.
ReplyDeleteIt looks as if you had a very attentive audience. Were you as successful in capturing trout as you were in capturing onlookers?
ReplyDeleteI know what you been about the joys of solitude ...of course your visitors didn't didn't disturb too much I'm sure :0)
ReplyDeleteFantastic photos! I hope your boy is okay since the stitches! Big kiss and hug to him!
ReplyDeleteNext time take some carrots or apples in your pocket... these guys look like moochers looking for a hand out.
ReplyDeleteHow cool.
By myself with nature quietly moving around me ~ love it! Love that you had sweet four legged visitors though! :)
