Tenting Tonight

We`re tenting tonight on the old camp-ground Give us a song to cheer Our weary hearts, a song of home And friends we love so dear. Many are the hearts that are weary tonight Wishing for the war to cease, Many are the hearts looking for the right To see the dawn of peace. Tenting tonight, tenting tonight Tenting on the old camp-ground. We`ve been tenting tonight on the old camp-ground,Thinking of days gone by of the loved ones at home that gave us thehand, And the tear that said, `Good-by !
We had a wonderful trip to the mountains in southwest Montana this summer with our lifelong friends Gary and Rosie. It had a special meaning to me as I was ready finally to revisit the places where my brothers and later my two sons and I learned to flyfish for rainbow trout. Those days are long gone now for reasons of time and circumstance. One son lives far away in Arizona and the other is with God.

  1. It looks like a pretty perfect time tenting. I love that last picture, especially. What gentle folks.

  2. There is always a nice feel camping with friends as a group. I have a huge cabin tent and get teased while camping with a little dog.

  3. I liked your post a lot, it resonated. When I camp now, many of the people gathered around are ghosts, but they seem glad of the fire and company.
Good luck with the tx for afib

  4. No better way to regain your focus and "reboot" than tent camping. And no better breakfast than those in the brisk morning air. Enjoy!

  7. I loved the words about tenting. They brought back so many memories to me of my own tenting experiences. I'm so glad you had this time with your dear longtime friends at a place that means so much to you.

I hope you are feeling better. I was so sorry to read of your recent health problems. Take care.

  8. Nice to realize there are still places where a camp fire is desirable.
I solved your problem TB. Just buy a cheap set of reading glassed from Walmart ($8 to $17) in the strength you need and keep them by your bed.
I have both reading and computer glasses so I don't have to fight the bifocal.

  9. Hi there, It's great to hear from you again.... We do have alot of the same blog friends...

Seeing that picture of you all at the campground made me YEARN to be there with you. I'd love to be anywhere where it is COOL... I'm so tired of this hot and dry summer...

Come back to my blog anytime and I'll return to yours.

  10. Delighted to see you were able to return to scenes of your younger life and find them still there. The last time I visited New Hampshire I found my favorite trout stream dredged where it ran along the road by a place we called "Twin Bridges". Trailing Arbutus and other wildflowers gone. Almost ruined. Thank God some things abide.

  11. I haven't been tenting in decades and wouldn't be able to do it in hot weather, period. From the looks of it, (jackets) heat wasn't an issue.

Like SFM said, any camping I would do now, would involve a lot of ghosts, of people and days gone by.

  22. Troutbirder, this post is so sad and sweet at the same time. I am glad you were able to revisit a place that brought you so much joy in the past. I am sure your son would want you to enjoy it and to remember him fondly. I cannot imagine a loss like that! What a beautiful place though and how nice to share it with good friends!
