So Spring Valley has seven places to eat out. That includes one truckstop, several breakfast lunch cafés, a pizza place and a couple of franchise fast food operations. That's all okay on occasion but on a permanent basis, I don't think so!. Thus I've been learning how to cook. On that subject not totally without some experience and skills. There is always old standbys like cooking over campfire in the wilderness or on picnic outing's. Then there is the old standby grill located on our deck. Back in the day in our first home we had a Ben Franklin fireplace/stove. It was like cooking over a campfire in the Minnesota winter. Then there is the kitchen. In that area I am almost a complete novice. I have a lot to learn.
As you can see in the above photograph where this Lily is watching me work in the kitchen, She does not look very optimistic. My frequent supper disasters have fairly frequently led to some unplanned addition's being added and mixed in with her dog kibble. What's a good dog got to complain about? :)
Good for you, Ray! I love that you are learning to cook for yourself. The hardest part is cooking for one...so make a full dinner and freeze/refrigerate half for another day. There are some really good beginner cookbooks on Amazon now...I bought a couple for my son who lives on his own.
ReplyDeleteI have to follow recipes very carefully.
ReplyDeleteHer look is priceless and yes she appears to have some doubts. Keep at it Ray, men usually make the best cooks. They aren't afraid to try new stuff or to wander off a recipe which is often a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you're much better than this even though it might feel pretty bad sometimes.
ReplyDeleteKeep practicing. It comes on.
ReplyDeleteYou will find recipes that you like. Practice!
ReplyDeleteI have an old stand by for you...campfire meal but you can put it in the oven all wrapped up in tin foil...Make two...and freeze one:0
Put a hamburger patty on a sheet of tin foil, add onion if you like, pealed carrots and potatoes. Bake for about a hour and 15 minutes...then add some kind of cheese and bake longer for the cheese to melt...we like velveeta:)
I am told that men make better cooks than women so that's something to live up to. Seriously, keeping it simple is the way to go. Good luck, Ray.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Lily is wondering will it be good this time? My advice is keep it simple. Learn at least four ways to cook eggs and you'll be all right.
ReplyDeleteToo funny. I'm sure she is delighted with your "not-so-great" attempts and disappointed when you make something you eat all by yourself. I have every confidence you will soon become proficient in the kitchen. We were all novices once.
ReplyDeleteLily does look skeptical—or else poised to pounce on what comes to her bowl! My advice is, make enough for extra meals and freeze a couple portions for when you don’t feel like cooking. You’ll soon be good at it with a little practice.
ReplyDeleteI can usually follow a recipe, but I also rely on a big helping of luck!
