Home again

One week after Barb's funeral I entered Olmsted community Hospital in Rochester Minnesota for a total knee replacement. That was followed by a three-week stay in Spring Valley Minnesota's nursing home for rehab. Now Lily and I are back home together for the long haul. I expect to be driving again in a week or so and fully functional within a month. Adapting to my new normal will no doubt take longer but it will be done though I only know this for sure, some doors will be close behind me and others will open. Time will tell. For certain I will continue my two blogs and reconnect with old friends and make new ones.

  5. I am glad that you had your knee replaced...I think you will be happier without the pain. Just be sure to do your PT so you have all the skills to use that knee. I hope this will help you to get out and enjoy some walks with Lily. Know that we are all thinking of you and praying for a speedy recovery!

  13. Getting your knee replaced will help your life become easier and with less pain. A few of my friends have had it done and after a few months recuperation they were doing so much better. May you heal quickly, Ray.

  18. Oops. Just stopped in and see Barb is gone. Both sorry to hear it and relieved that the suffering is over. You have been the very model of a devoted husband. Now you can restore her in your heart and memories in the fulness of her being, not as the diminished version of the final illness. Wishing you strength.

  19. Ray, I am so happy to be part of your blogger family and glad that you will continue to post. You will never forget Barb but, as I found when I lost my husband in 1990, life does go on. Sending a hug, Ginnie

  21. Dear Ray, I, too, am going to have knee replacement. The left knee this time. (I had the right done, really successfully, nine years ago.) I'm so happy that all has gone well for you. And as you say, as we age, doors close and doors open to new possibilities. Be good to yourself. Peace.
