Max The Wonder Dog

He was our first dog.  We got him that first summer after we got married. Like all "firsts" he has kept a special place in our hearts.  He trained us rather than the other way around as we had never owned a dog before.  I do have a million stories about him but lets just say I'm sure Marley of book and movie fame had to be modeled after Max. They were kindred spirits.  He was a mutt.  Half Golden Retriever and half German Shorthaired Pointer and all hunter. Today he would be an expensive "designer dog."  He could flush, point, retrieve and win your heart over.

  4. He's handsome and I love the jacket! If he was like Marley, he was definitely a rascal, but even rascals know how to win hearts.

  5. Living where I do I've needed a dog for a long time. Just always put off getting one caused I liked them okay but thought they would be too much trouble. You are doing a fine job of changing my mind. :)

    He surely was good looking!

  6. What a sweet dog. It just comes through in the pictures, what a fine companion he was. Thanks for introducing me to him, even after all this time I feel blessed. :-)

  7. I love the Rock-a-By Baby picture with Mrs. T. snuggling him. He sounds like a typical family dog, 1/2 Best Friend and 1/2 Aggravator!

    Cheers,

  9. What a great dog!
It's funny - about the designer dogs - people always want to know what kind our McGee is.. just today there was a man who stopped by and was smitten with him & asked his breed.. to which I said as I always do, "he's a mutt!" He's half boxer, with a mixed breed / hound / lab mother.
Soon after we got him, I learned that the "boxador" is a breed fast growing in population. Who knew.
Max looks like he had wonderful velvety floppy ears.

  16. Bittersweet remembering our wonderful old dogs. I wish they were with us longer but then again I guess we wouldn't have met the other great dogs that come into our life after .
Did you check the winners post on my blog ... you were one of the winners :)

  17. Funny, isn't it? Yesterday's giveaway mutt is today's expensive Designer Dog! I think we all learn a lot with our first dog. And our first child for that matter.

  19. Hi There, So sorry about your bike accident... Besides the pain from the accident, I'm sure the bug bites were worse... My hubby got chiggers one year --and it took FOREVER for them to clear up. He was pretty miserable also.

Cute dog... You all have always had dogs, haven't you? SO--when do you get a new one now???

Have a great weekend--what is left of it.
    Hugs,
    Betsy
