Like much of
the rest of the country winter arrived way ahead of schedule this year. The consequence has been that my daily hikes
have been shortened somewhat and carried on without my camera and binoculars.
Fortunately we’ve been able to extend our recent birding outings to Florida to
a month and as I look out this morning at the snow piled up already… I can
hardly wait. In the meantime, here are some views of a hike Lily and I took in
late October this year…. Bluff Country
at its very best.
We live about sixty miles west of "The Father of Waters" right on the edge of the divide between the hills and valleys stretching south along the river and the former tall and short grass prairies (now corn and soybean fields) to the west and the Rocky Mountains. That last week of what we call "Indian Summer" Mrs. T., Miss Lily and I hiked many miles enjoying every minute of it....:)
Lily is a fine looking dog. I'm wondering who had more fun, you or her?
ReplyDeletesweet lily! i like the autumn colors and the train trestle/bridge, too.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful setting, for all seasons. Enjoy the outdoors every chance you get.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, Trout. Lily is lovely!
ReplyDeleteGlad you all got a wonderful hike in BEFORE the winter weather got there...
ReplyDeleteThis has been a crazy November this year.. We seldom have cold temps in November... This year, we have ALOT of cold temps already... Mercy Me!
Hugs,
Betsy
Is that the Root River? I have checked FL to see what I can find cheap. I have already gone through 50 lbs of sunflower seed this month.
ReplyDeleteYour bluff country is a beautiful area! Good to see Lily likes hikes too:)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful country, but an even more beautiful critter! :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope you are staying warm. Sure didn't get to enjoy fall very long. Lovely shots of some still tolerable weather.
ReplyDeleteGlad you and Lily got to enjoy the lovely hiking before the snows hit. Florida must be looking good right now.
ReplyDeleteI wish we'd had more days like that. It's cold here in Maine, too.
ReplyDeleteBoth the Egret and the Dog posed nicely for you!
ReplyDeleteI like picture No.5. Lily looks as though she is really enjoying her walk.
ReplyDeleteI have seen the reports of snow in the US, it's scary weather.
How lucky you are to have such nice places to hike and a loving companion to accompany you!
ReplyDeleteThat dog always seems to have to wait for you slow, two-leggeds.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful place to hike. I'm sure it's lovely in every season.
ReplyDeleteYour type of wildness on your walks is the very kind I so enjoy. Is this area one that contains some prairie grass. I can see that Lily enjoys your walks too. -- barbara
ReplyDeleteVery nice!
ReplyDeleteIn case you're not aware, readers, if you click on the first photo it opens Blogger's photo viewer, which displays the photos in a larger size against a dark background - it's very nice. Once the first photo is displayed, just click it to bring up the next one.
I'd been looking for signs of birds flocking early here, which is supposed to mean a bad winter. I hadn't seen any, but then was informed they had all taken the bus.
Gorgeous photos of a beautiful place. You guys truly live in paradise.
ReplyDeletethos eagles in the post below are awesome, have never seen more than 2 at one time... what part of Florida will you be in. hope it is not the panhandle. no snow but lots of cold. glad you can bring your dog.
ReplyDeleteHi troutbirder, I enjoyed all your photos in this post. “Bluff Country” is beautiful. I would think I was lucky if I had some nice spots for wildlife photography like you have there. I took up a little challenge to see if I could figure out where you are. You said about 60 miles west of “The Father of Waters”. I interpreted that to be, possibly … 1. Minneapolis, or 2. Mississippi Headwaters State Park, or 3. Itasca State Park. Using those as a starting point, you could be near 1. Litchfield, or 2. Crookston, or 3. Ada. I hope I got close on at least one of those. I am the kind of person who is curious about things and wanted to see where the Mississippi River started, so, maybe about 15 years ago, I visited Itasca State Park and walked across the rocks there where the river leaves the lake. Won’t forget that … it was cool! (In more ways than one!) Anyway, thank you for stopping by my blog today and the kind comment. Hope you will return often. Take care and thanks for sharing. John
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, and so much fun. I enjoy you sharing nature with us.
