Ok my recent off and on difficulties with uploading pictures to eblog have uploaded my frustration level to new heights. Numerous people offered kind suggestions for a fix but my age & technological ineptitude has led to the following:
1. Being of German ancestry and thus inordinately stubborn I 'm not giving up blogging entirely. I will not join the billions of people Facebooking because trying to get lots of "friends" and strangers to sign up is not my style and as you may have noticed I like to make long windy posts. Facebook doesn't then itself to that..;) I was a history teacher after all....
2. I looked into Picasa and tried to delete some pictures from the overstocked "web albums" but that didn't help.
3. I looked for new blogging platforms, found a few, and decided they were more complicated that the mess I was already dealing with. Starting over from scratch.... Nah! I don't think so.
4. Then I found the part where Picasa wants money for me to continue adding pictures. Now I'm not totally cheap and not an ideologue on the subject of the "free" and "universal" internet, but providing my credit card for an automatic monthly withdrawal ranging from 12 to 60 dollars a month. Nope.
The temporary solution is -
(1) I'm going to revive Troutbirder II blog as the platform for new book reviews and the occasional revival and updating of some old posts from 5 or more years ago. This can be easily opened by clicking on the Red Van on the top of the Troutbirder blog.
(2) Troutbirder blog will continue as I experiment perhaps with less pictures and new formats.
Hope this all works out for you, TB. I don't think you have an extraordinary number of pictures on your blog, so maybe that's not the problem. Did you try another web browser as a possible fix? Anyway, I'm GLAD you're not going to give up! :-)
ReplyDeleteDid you check to make sure your Picasa Storage was full? I went and looked at my photo storage plan and I was locked in for $5.00 a year as long as I keep my Credit Card valid. They just charge my card once a year. I think one of the new plans is $1.99 a month. I have a credit card that I got from the bank with a low limit on it just for internet usage....that was my way around using a card with a larger limit.
ReplyDeleteYou can always start a new blog with a new gmail email address. Lots of people do that. Leave a link to your new blog on your old blog.
I'm sorry to hear that this issue is such a challenge. Check blogger help. They've helped me a couple of times and it's information that's simple.
ReplyDeleteHi Trout, I am having issues of my own in trying to change my blog background/template. I am nervous about it because I don't know HTML and although I am fine with making blog posts and uploading photos and videos, I am very uncomfortable with doing the layout, so I have asked a friend to help me. Let's hope she can.
ReplyDeleteI like your wanting to hang in there, though, because if there is one thing that I don't want to do is to let an inanimate object such as the template on my blog discourage me from blogging. LOL!
Oh, and I agree with you, other blogging platforms have proven to be more complicated for myself as well...such as Wordpress. I know many people use this but I tried it and found it much more difficult than Blogger, so I didn't use it. :)
ReplyDeleteYour photos don't seem unusually large, but if you make them no more than 800 X 600, they aren't supposed to count against you. (or at least that's how it used to be) Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteI looked round for another blogging facility, and gave up when I saw how complicated they all were. I couldn't get on with Wordpress at all so decided to stick with Blogger. I do know others who have been caught up in the picture problem and none of them posted that many. I wondered if it was a random thing.
ReplyDeleteI hope blog #2 works out for you. Hard to believe that Google would charge that kind of coin.
ReplyDeleteHI Troutbirder! So sorry about your Picasa issues. I had that happen to me several years ago and was at a loss at what to do. I switched to flicker and love it! Never looked back and kept my same blog; which was important to me. On FB each person has to use it as they see fit. All the friends I have are folks I know personally or have met and have a social relationship with; if only through the blog. I love FB for family and friends. Some of whom are in Deutschland so it is really nice.
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays to you and yours! I moved to the country and have dish network for broadband now. It really stinks as I have really no data. I don't get on as much as I used to but wanted to come say hi-finally! Take care! tina
do you use google chrome? some folks who use internet explorer have had difficulty with it not playing well with blogger. since google owns both chrome and blogger, they do best together.
ReplyDeleteI just download from my home files and computer. I only save them for 6 months and put them onto storage. I have heard from a few my posts take a few days, so blogger is a bogger with some glitches, but wonder if it is area hookups.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you're having troubles but I'm happy to hear you are not giving up blogging!! I can't offer any help at all; my hubby laughs at my technological ineptitude.
ReplyDeleteI had a problem with posting pictures about a year ago. Every once in a while, Google/Blogger makes changes and it affects the web browser. I found I could not use IE as my web browser for Blogger, so I changed to Google Chrome.
ReplyDeleteHoping some of the above comments hold useful fruit. I haven't run into this problem so I have no clue how to help. Don't give up.
ReplyDeleteWell---sounds like you have worked out a temporary deal. I have two other blogs (which I seldom use) ---so I guess I could resort to them if necessary... So far, I haven't had a 'money' problem.... Who knows when though????
ReplyDeleteThe only other blogging option I would use would be Wordpress --but still prefer Blogger to that. I would rather start a new blog on Blogger --although that would be quite a bit of work... Oh Well---I seem to be blogging less and less anyhow, so??????
I am one who enjoys Facebook --since I have a nice group of special friends on there and we are constantly in touch with what is going on in the moment. It's simple/fun --and seems to work for me. However, I do love blogging since I too enjoy longer blogs and lots of words and photos... Guess ---I'll continue both.
Good Luck.
Hugs,
Betsy
ReplyDeleteI am German, stubborn, long-winded, and technologically inept as well. Thank god you don't Facebook--you'd lose me for sure. I hate that.
I wish I could wave a magic wand and your problems would be remedied.
Best of luck, TB!
Several people have recommended Google Chrome...I have been using Firefox for a long time and it seems to work well with Blogger, too. In any case, I hope you are able to figure out a solution that works for you!
ReplyDeleteI feel similarly about technology. Often frustrated (and maybe a little confused) but unwilling to give up. :)
ReplyDeleteAfter my computer crashed late September, I'm still getting used to the replacement, and unsure about how some of the things work. (I'm just glad they do!)
Why does everyone use Picasa? I just download my photos to my computer and store them on an external hard drive. I'm thinking your problem may just be with blogger for the moment--maybe it will self-correct????
ReplyDeleteTry downloading a photo to your computer and posting it from there rather than Picasa. That would determine if the problem is Picasa or your computer.
When my blog was copied, I looked into switching platforms and like you, found the others just too cumbersome. It was just too exhausting for this old dog to learn new tricks. I did, however, buy my domain name, which was pretty easy to do.
Maybe ask a trusted blogging friend to see if they can post for you (including photos) from their computer. You'd have to give them temporary admin rights, but if you trust them to help you, that should not be a problem. I had to do that once and it helped to rule out where I thought some of my problems were coming from. Let me know if there is something I can do to help you.
Same as Far Side. I think they want five bucks every year even though they brag that it is free. I have unlimited storage when I give them five bucks.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your posts in the New Year.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with all the Technology Stuff. :-)
Carla
P.S.
ReplyDeleteI am not into Facebook. Agree with you. :-)
I hope you get this all figured out. I always put the photos I'm going to use in a particular post into a folder on my desktop. I drag them into the folder from iPhotos. (I use a Mac.) I've not had any problems. I don't use Picasa even though I have an account. I have so much to learn, I couldn't help anyone with any problems. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteI haven't blogged in a couple of years, so I can't comment directly on the problems with the photos. I know on my old blogs, some of the links to the photos are broken. I don't even remember where those photos were stored.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, I think what happens with some blogs is that the blogger uses a fairly large size (how much memory the photos take up) of photos, and that maxes out the system fairly fast. Since most of my blogging was done on dial up internet, I always reduced my photos to low three digit kbs. and they loaded A-OK on dial up and opened quickly on the blog.
Even though I now have faster internet, I still find that photos on some blogs and websites load very slowly, so obviously they take a lot of memory-space.
As to how to reduce the size of a photo, please find a friend to help with that.
