Greg

A late fall scene looking across beautiful Lake Yellowstone with boiling steam rising along the shoreline in the distance. My brother & I were there for the trout fishing. It turned out to be the last of our many outdoor adventures together.
We had spent two freezing fruitless days on the Lamar River, even stopping by Castle Geyser to thaw our hands and flyrods in steamy vapor. Heading south to try spinner fishing for cutthroats on giganticLake Yellowstone seemed like a better option. It was..

The weather improved the next day.  We had the lake all to ourselves & managed to avoid conversation about his impending divorce....

Looking at family albums this Christmas 20/20 & thinking of all the good times Greg & I had together

  1. This sounds sad. Sorry about your loss, which apparently was and is a very deep one.

  3. My sympathy with your loss. The older we get, the more people we know on the other side of the veil, whatever it may be. I have so many dead relatives and friends comfortably settled in my heart and memories by now. Somehow their presence seems more real than their absence. I am suddenly thinking of that lovely old English poem "We are seven". At some point it will feel like the most natural thing in the world to join them. But not yet. Today you get to hold your dead loves in your heart, and enjoy the day with your wife. Merry Humbug.

  17. As one who hates this time of year, I try not to think about the last time I saw my sister... its been 13 years and it still hurts too much. Somehow the pain seems greater at Christmas.

I hope 2017 is a better year for you!

  19. Good memories and bad memories. It i hard to balance it all with the things that happen that you can not control. Yellowstone Lake seems like an interesting place to visit. I am so sorry for your loss.

  20. As an aside, those plumes are not steam, they are smoke from fires.
