Lily now and then

With Barb unfortunately but now safely residing in Cottagewood memory care it seems the other senior female in my life has pretty much taken over. For a number of years now I had critiqued Barb for spoiling our second German Shepherd to no end. That had never been the pattern for all the hunting dogs who resided in an outdoor kennel, as well as Baron there GSD successor. All of our previous dogs had limited indoor privileges so that they could socialize with the family. Lily is an indoor dog pure and simple who also had the run of the yard and went for long walks with the both of us. She was fed table scraps from the table and pretty much allowed to roam throughout the house and settle wherever she felt like it. Some nights I had to force my way onto  our bed to regain my spot. How things have changed. Now since I'm learning to cook  oversized meals   according to the directions on the boxes, Lily  as a result gets lots of  leftovers. Thus she is putting on serious weight. For myself with a bad case of vertigo, tramping through the woods isn't always safe for me. Unfortunately my new membership in the local fitness club isn't helping Lily at all. She is not eligible for membership

  1. Trouble is, once the weight increases it's not so easy to shift. I'm talking about you and your dog, having been there and done that myself:)

  2. Hi Ray - I can believe Lily is the best thing for you to have around now ... she'll know what's going on - just not easy for you ... take care and between you - you'll take good care of each other. All the best - and with thoughts - Hilary

  3. I am glad you have Lily to keep you company. Our pets are so important to us, especially when life gets more difficult. I don’t believe a pet can be spoiled unless we want them to be. It is about love, and they give it to us without limits and we reciprocate.

  6. Love that first photo. Lily is a big girl! I’m sure she is wonderful company for you now that you are living alone but maybe you’ll have to find a new resource for your leftovers!

  7. Love that picture of her watching over you. Sometimes in life the unconditional love dogs give us is just the needed ticket. Keep spoiling her, it is good for both of you.

  8. She is a beautiful girl! How about a walker...as in one with two wheels, and handles and a flip down seat...then you could walk Lily a ways and sit down if you had too...sorry to hear your Vertigo is so bad:(

  9. I've got a piece of advice. Learn to like leftovers. Most of your dishes will easily make two meals and most can also be frozen if wrapped properly. Then give sweet Lily dog food only with occasional healthy treats, either doggie treats or vegetable pieces like carrots or fruits like apples.

Do you have positional vertigo? If so, there are physical therapy exercises that can help move those crystals. If it's a type of Meniere's or labyrinthitis then the therapy won't help but there are medications that can help by suppressing the vestibular nerve.

I don't think there is any turning back to make Lily anything other than a spoiled house dog.

  10. It looks as if Lili is taking good care of you. I'm fortunate to still have my wife with me, but we have really gotten to like leftovers. We have a Foodsaver that allows us to freeze leftovers that we can't use right away.

  12. Pill boxes & pill cases to help keep track & organize your daily & weekly schedule. Ideal gift or present idea. Anyone can be helped by this pill box as they are very easy to use and perfect for those who forget to take medicine daily and regularly.
