Lilies on Parade

I grew up in the St. Paul and gardening was a non starter for me. When first married, we rented a little shack in the country and a small vegetable garden was my first venture. Later, when we bought our first home on three acres in the woods, I expanded from vegetables to landscaping and flower gardens. It became a life-long passion. I was entirely self taught on the subject and no one told me you should keep track of the names of all the flowers that were purchased. Decades later, when I became fascinated with native wildflowers, especially woodland and prairie plants, I did their all the wild ones names. Now, as I show friends and visitors my wildflower gardens, I rattle can off their names. The lilies and the roses etc. though remain largely unnamed. . So today, with all the lilies beginning to burst forth in early summer bloom, here are a few of mine. Unnamed lilies on parade. Enjoy!

  2. I don't know one lily from the next, but I know pretty flowers when I see them. And when I smell them, which I can just about do, looking at your lovely photos!
Thanks for the "shot of summer" TB :-)

  8. What beauties!! WOW!! If there are all in your garden then it must look like a fairyland TB. The first two are what we call Star Gazers. They have those little "bumps" on the petals - maybe the white one further down too but I cannot tell from the picures. Some of them are Asian lilies and come in the most spectacular colors like the orange/red one. The one may be an Asian too or possibly a Day Lily.

Maybe you hvae other names for them. We are kind of weird here and dont call things by the same names. LOL!!

Hope this gives you an indication TB and helps. I LOVE the Star Gazers as they have the most heavenly perfume.

  10. Most enjoyable, named or not! Weren't those first gardening experiences the most fun? When you didn't know what the heck you were doing but didn't really care?

  12. The beauty of these lilies speak for themselves. They don't need names to be enjoyed.

  13. Your lilies are beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Mine are just starting to bloom this day. I like them because I can't seem to do anything to discourage their growth and beautiful blooms. That is a good thing for me who sometimes forgets to water and fertilize because of a fishing trip or travel.
