On Wisconsin On Wisconsin.....Not!

It seems a few years back, as a rookie birder, I joined a group in the small Mississippi river town of LaCrescent, Minnesota for a Sunday afternoon outing. Introducing myself to the small group waiting in the parking lot of a local convenience store, they gave me a friendly welcome and then noting my University of Minnesota Gopher cap someone asked me how my football team had done the day before. It turned out the entire group of birders was from Lacrosse, Wisconsin across the river. Talk about a loaded question! My Gophers had ignominiously been demolished for the twelfth year in a row.... My response was simply to take off my hat to demonstrate my balding pate and point out that the last time the Gophers had been to the Rose Bowl I was a student at the U in the early sixties and we should now focus on birding and leave football behind.  With laughter they all agreed and we had a great outing that day....:)

And then last night in the final regular seasons game for the Gophers mens basketball team once again....

Badgers dominate second half, end Gophers' eight-game winning streak

Big second half extends Wisconsin's dominance over Gophers, ending their win streak at eight. That's it.
Enough is enough..... Troutbirders revenge!
Scott Walker ultra anti worker/union radical conservative
Mark Dayton Centrist Democrat Farmer/Labor Party Progressive

  1. Sounds like a case of 'nuff said' lol.

  2. You clearly illustrate why sports superiority is NOT the most important measure of a state's superiority.

  3. Lots of determined fans. When my parents moved to MN it took them a while to get used to the Iowa jokes and my dad played for NE so had them all fooled.

  4. There is no doubt which state I'd rather live in. Hey, sports isn't everything and that is coming from an sports enthusiast. Well done TB.

  5. The financial results are obvious. Why don't people get it. They always want cuts.

  6. Politically, Minnesota wins hands down.

  7. I find it increasingly difficult to resist commenting on U.S. Politics!

  8. Dayton takes care of "the cities" and forgets out state MN. We donate to the local school because teachers bear the brunt of buying supplies for kids...and the food in a backpack program is going full force and the number of homeless students is growing...just a matter of perspective and he is just not seeing it all in my opinion. :(

  9. I like your revenge action, TB. Makes it pretty clear which state is better to live in. :-)

  10. We lived in Wisconsin for more than twenty years. And I spent every single one of those years hating the UW Badgers and their obnoxious fans. Rock on Gophers!

  11. I was born a Badger and then spent many years a Gopher so no matter which team wins, I feel happy! As for Wisconsin politics, I can only feel sad for what Walker has done.

  12. It seems like politics and sport teams are becoming more and more alike. You cheer for your team no matter what, and you hate the rival team no matter what.

  13. Scott Walker hoped those draconian policies he imposed on his people would propel him to the White House. They propelled him to 1 percent in the polls and dropping out before the primaries began. Wisconsinites are still paying for it. Lucky they didn't change the name from Badger State to Weasel State.

I lived in Wisconsin once, I owned a house there, but could never grow to like it. It's known for cheese and beer drinking. Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes. It gave us Hubert Humphrey and Bob Dylan. Wisconsin gave us Scott Walker and Joe McCarthy. They might win a few games but I bet they cheat.

  14. I'm usually turned off when it comes to sports talk but I loved the ending and the comparison of states. I wish all our states could have the same good leadership.
