Then and Now

They were having a reunion after 40 years and all were looking healthy and amazingly well... Remember the 7 children of the Von Trapp family? The Sound of Music' won the Academy Award for Best Picture of 1965 and is one of the most popular musicals ever produced.
40 Yrs Later: The 7 Children in 'The Sound of Music'.
CURRENTLY..... It wouldn't be funny if it weren't so true.. Julie Andrews turned 69 and to commemorate her 69th birthday on October 1, actress/vocalist Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan 's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was "My Favourite Things" from the legendary movie "The Sound Of Music."

Here are the actual lyrics she used: "Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting, Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings, Bundles of magazines tied up in string, These are a few of my favourite things. Cadillac's and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses, Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses, Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings, These are a few of my favourite things.. When the pipes leak, When the bones creak, When the knees go bad, I simply remember my favourite things, And then I don't feel so bad."

Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted over four minutes and repeated encores.

  2. After all these years I have never taken the time to watch the movie. It is a classic though and so is Julie Andrews. Love those "new" lyrics. Too bad they are so true.

  3. One of my favorite movies. The classics are so much fun to watch. (Never thought I'd be old enough to call movies I grew up with "classics." Bah!

  4. This makes me sound old Ray as I remember when it came out and its popularity. Where have the years gone? I dont feel any older now though.

I heard her singing that version of it on a TV program a few years back and had to laugh at it. :)

Maybe age is all in the mind?

  5. Great blog. And I love seeing the early photos and the "now" photos. I'm hoping age is all in the mind--I was contemplating going back a year on each birthday (turning 56 this year, but maybe I'll stay 55 for one more year and then 54 then next) and see if it makes me feel younger!!
And I liked reading your blog about why you've never seen boaters on that lake!! Yay for depth finders!!

  7. I can certainly appreciate the new lyrics Julie Andrews gave "My Favorite Things". It doesn't seem possible that it has been 45 years since the movie "Sound of Music" came out. Where did all that time go

  8. Haha ~ I've heard Julie Andrews sing that version on Youtube. Very funny.

I have watched The Sound of Music at LEAST 6 times a year for over 10 years. I can sing every word of every song and can pretty much say the lines of all the characters.

My boys run away when I bring out the DVD... :)

  9. Julie Andrews is legendary and she so deserved a standing ovation. I would've loved to hear her new updated version of a few of my favorite things. That movie is a movie for all time. Thanks for bringing back the memories. My old bones creak too and it is such a thing to be so aware of aging and time passing that I always feel a bit melancholy this time of the year and old memories sure get me going.
