Bluff Country

Although today is Easter Sunday, looking out the back window at the piles of snow just doesn’t make it seem right. There definitely won’t be any Easter Parades or Bonnets in the cold and dreary weather we’ve been having lately.  The wait for the ground to thaw out so we can begin repairs on the frozen septic tank line seems interminable. Mrs. T has been a trooper but navy showers, doing laundry in town, and dish water tossed off the deck have worn down both of our patience.

On a more positive note, the kind words I received on my last post describing a hike along  a local trout stream made my day. Thank you all.  To go with the pictures being worth a thousand words theme, I’ll follow up with some fall photos along the same trout stream I previously described. That is the unglaciated portion of southeastern Minnesota, better known as  Bluff Country…..

Towering high above the troutstream where an innocent troutfisherman was minding his own business were the limestone bluffs. There several irrate geese, strangely nesting high above,  attepted to ambush the fisherman.

Fleeing downstream he came upon a beaver damn. The beaver didn't show themselves but the trout were sipping mayflies and he soon enticed a few into his creel. Mrs T. loves fresh caught trout on the grill.

  3. Oh my that septic is a trouble maker. Thankfully you have nature nearby to take away your frustration -- and fresh fish to make your wife smile. Life is a balancing act. -- barbara

  4. I am aware of bluff like terrain along eastern Iowa because of the river but I had never thought about eastern Minnesota have bluffs. Your area reminds me of our Ledges State Park near Boone, Iowa. They are beautiful shots of a great area.

Soon, you'll want to step out and show us all the wonderments of your neck of the woods.

  7. A walk in that area would be a great way to spend time...

Hope your septic problems soon get resolved...

  8. Well, some rain must fall into everyone's life. I guess that would be preferable to septic tank problems, eh? :-)

  11. Beautiful photos... Bluff County is definitely an appropriate name!!!! Hope you get down there again this year. Beautiful area!

We don't have much spring here either yet... Still feels like winter...Someone said that when Easter comes early, Spring comes late.... Not sure about that --but it's true this year!

Happy Easter to you and yours. God Bless.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  12. Stella is full of complaints too.
We have had just enough thawing and then refreezing so when she attempts to get to her favorite backyard spots, she sinks right down to her chest. She has had enough of this mess as I have too.

Here is to a healed Septic system!

  13. Hi tb...first, Happy Easter. Mrs. T and you are definitely troopers! I can't even imagine having that septic problem. I hope it gets fixed soon! What a wonderful place to hike and fish. A couple of years ago my hubby and I went to Fall Creek Falls here in TN. On one of our hikes we saw a beaver dam and trees chewed by beavers. We were so excited! I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures you take on your next trip!

  14. Your Bluff country will be beautiful again in the spring! Knock on wood we have never had any septic system problems at this house..but at previous places ..I was thankful on many occasions to have an out house. Poor Mrs. T you should really take her on another vacation. Happy Easter perhaps your snow will melt this week:)

  15. We have beautiful bluffs like that in Ar and they both fascinate and intimidate me.
Being deprived plumbing is miserable but really makes one really appreciate that first hot shower and the sound of a flushing toilet.
Hope that is soon. Happy Easter.

  18. With the still big pile of snow in my yard and fresh new snow coming down it really doesn't seem like Easter. No Easter egg hunt outside for the children that is for sure!

Here is hoping that April is kinder to us my friend.

  20. Really too bad about the drainage problems. It just makes a tough, long winter just that much harder to take. However, thoughts of fresh-caught trout on the grill...oh yeah!

  21. that is a lot of gorgeous scenery, even without the pretty flowers! i love the cliffs (bluffs?) and the stream and knowing what quiet creatures are living in and around your territory there - thanks for putting some photos to all those words, and i hope to see the flowers when they decide to show themselves!

  22. You paint a lovely picture with your words, minus the frozen septic lines of course. Yikees, I hope you get it fixed soon.

  23. What a beautiful spot! We've been melting around here. Hoping you thaw out soon so you can stop "camping" in your own home.
