Spring Thaw

It's been a long winter as exemplified by the snow piled up along my driveway. Still with the temperatures finally in the forties, spring thaw is finally well underway.  And the little trout streams, where I wade knee deep throughout the summer, turn into raging torrents for a day.  On a county highway bridge driving to Rochester  the flooding stream strands car size  ice floes  in the current.  Guess I won't be fishing there for a few days....

  1. It has been a "stretched out" winter. We had more snow in March than we typically have in January. I'm finally seeing some earth, but the piles from shoveling and plowing look like they will last until June-LOL!

Hope you get some fishing in soon!

  3. This morning is beginning with a cold temperature of 37º F but it is supposed to reach 63º F by the middle of the afternoon. This cool approach to summer signals everything to wake up from the torpor of winter and race to reach maturity for this year and stand tall; flowers blooming, and showing off the finest leaves without a single blemish, inviting hoards of bugs and beasts to a feast on the goodness of nature. Fishing will be good this summer.

  4. You still have snow? I thought the piles along my driveway would last till June, too. But a few warm, rainy days took care of that in a hurry. Our storms now are rain in the valley and snow in the mountains, just the way we like it.

  5. You and a couple other bloggers I follow have shown me how winter is lingering in the northeastern part of the country. I'm hoping it won't be long now, but the amount of snow seems daunting! :-)

  6. Those icebergs are huge. Not a stream to play in.
Glad the change is starting for you.

  12. OK T.B., we are still Deep in snow here, backyard has to have 3 feet or more left, mountains across at the church parking lot, so not only do we still have Tons of snow, but its filthy, nasty, black grungy looking stuff. I haven't quite given up on a thaw, but I will let you know when I do.

  13. I wouldn't want to be in the stream with those chunks of ice! It'll be ready for wading in a couple of months, maybe.
Wow, that's a lot of snow beside the roadway! Except in the high country above 9000 feet, our snow is about gone.

  14. We woke up to 36 degrees and rain. But I see the sun is shining now, so that's welcome. We're ready for spring!

  15. Your stream photo is very familiar to me, as (I'm sure I may have told you this at some point way back) my brother in law & his family live in Rochester, he works for the MPCA, does a lot of water analysis, and is an avid fly-fisherman. (Obsessed might be more like it.) He often shares photos of the beautiful streams and limestone cliffs of the driftless area.
Your snow photo is very familiar to me, as that's what it looks like here at home! We got more snow last night & off & on all day today.

  17. TRoutbirder, it is always amazing to me to see and hear a spring thaw. Now that I live back in the desert, we don't get spring thaws, but we do get flash flooding during the Monsoon. Stay safe and dry and I hope all that snow melts soon!

BTW, I liked the comment you left on the Brownstone Birding Blog and I responded to it there!
