At Lake Itasca State Park in the far reaches of northern Minnesota travelers from near and far take the opportunity to wade across The Father of Waters, the mighty Mississippi River. Here Troutbirder and his two young sons manage the feat without even getting wet.... It was the mid seventies.
A fun area to be in,I have walked the rocks also

ReplyDeleteThe headwaters are about 40 minutes from our home. We don't go to the park often enough...it is a beautiful place. Great old photos of you and your sons..no doubt Mrs. T took the photos! :)
ReplyDeleteWe went to the headwaters when we lived in WI. Oh, the mighty Mississippi.
ReplyDeleteAh, the good ol' days! I remember the 70's.
ReplyDeletewhat a sweet look back!
ReplyDeleteHi tb...what a wonderful thing to do! I honestly had never really thought about where the Mississippi started. I am putting this on my Bucket List as one of the things I'd like to do. I remember the first time I ever saw the Mississippi River, I was so excited. Also on my Bucket List is to hike a small piece of the Appalachian Trail. We almost did it two years ago while on vacation, but were so busy we didn't get to it. Thanks for posting this!
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting adventure that would be. Always wonder where certain rivers begin -- barbara
ReplyDeleteHow time flies, eh TB? You don't look that different, all things considered. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming to my blog and leaving a comment. I looked at your post and was so excited to see the sign for the Mississippi River. My daughter lives on an island of the Mississippi in Memphis and we walked along it there. It is quite large. If you’d like to see some pictures you can see the post I wrote on it on June 27, 2012 – or click on this http://avagabonde.blogspot.com/2012/06/mud-island-in-memphis-tennessee.html. She moved from Long Beach, CA., but living by the river now – she loves it.
ReplyDeleteLots of history and geography in this post. History of the 70's clothing style and a watershed mark!
ReplyDeleteWhat a feat for the feet. Really neat and a super good memory I bet your boys will never forget.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great look back!
ReplyDeleteIts one of the bright lights of the Minnesota park systems!
ReplyDeleteI left you a reply on my blog tonight, TB, trying to educate you a little.

I always love seeing photo of others enjoying this landmark!
ReplyDeleteI have photos of myself in those waters & with that sign as a young kid.. as well as photos of my own kids.
I loved growing up on the Mississippi, we lived on 80 acres on the river, about 2 hours (driving) east of the headwaters, where the river began heading south. So many memories.
I was in town today, and crossed over the Mississippi a couple of times. It is the river that constantly runs through my life! :)
Look at you and your boys enjoying nature... love seeing Mr. T back in the day. :)
ReplyDeleteAlthough I have crossed the Mississippi many times, I've never been able to wade across. I need to get to Minnesota so I can accomplish that feat. I enjoyed the pictures from your archives.
ReplyDeleteLove your pics! The sign is a fascinating bit of information on the Mississippi River.
ReplyDeleteNo---you can't walk across the Mighty Mississippi down here in TN... ha ha
ReplyDeleteGeorge said that you have invited us to visit your neat area... Better be careful--we may come!!!!! ha
