We all had a great day at the zoo. It wasn't all that
crowded either. Some seniors were there and lots of young moms pushing
baby carriages. Minnesota kids were in
school and the three Arizona Grandkids had two weeks off
as Arizona public schools are basically year round with vacations every so
often..... Son Tony teaches high school
chemistry and biology
Barb and Ray Troutbirder, native St. Paulites , retired teachers.
Born in Fargo, North Dakota, a 7th grader.
Born in Ethiopia, a 4th grader.
Born in Rwanda, a first grader.
Son Tony, born Spring Valley, Minnesota and taught high school chemistry, physics and biology in Minnesota, Colorado and Arizona.
It's great having out-of-town guests and doing the local tourist thing.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter and grandson were here last week and we wound up stopping at the St Paul Cathedral. I've lived here since 1983 and had never been there before.
You're making me think about going to the zoo. I'm not sure whether to thank you, or kick your behind. I haven't been in over 30 years. Perhaps I should try it without the grandkids and see how I do, before tackling it with them. You're in much better shape than me!
ReplyDeleteFun day at the zoo for all of you! Nice to hear where the children were born. Lovely post, TB.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I think that's great your son is a teacher as well!! Enjoy the visit.
ReplyDeletea great family throughout. :)
ReplyDeleteYear round school makes it nice in that they can vacation at off peak times and miss the crowds. What a grand looking family. A regular UN.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fine day at the zoo! And great pictures of your fine family, TB. :-)
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely time and great photos!
ReplyDeleteGood times with these three. They make being a grand parent well worth while.
ReplyDeleteA great family of teachers! You have some happy/healthy looking grandchildren!
ReplyDeleteThat smile on your face in your photos tells me you are a proud dad and grandfather -- as well you should be. Your last shot is a real treasure photo -- barbara
ReplyDeleteQuality time with the grandkids! Lovely!
ReplyDeleteLove the zoo-and what a great place to take the kids.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note--chemistry was the only "F" I EVER received in school. I am in awe of ANYONE that can figure that out. Your son must be one smart cookie to teach all that!
Thanks for introducing us to this nice family! I was wondering why the kids were out of school at this time of year.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Jo, Stella, and Zkhat
Year-round school provides some nice opportunities for adventures without the crowds. My grandkids are in a year-round school, too. Looks like you guys are having loads of fun!
ReplyDeleteA day spent at the zoo is my idea of a good time! Looks like everyone had fun.
ReplyDeleteHave fun on your hike!
xo Catherine
great looking family there....looks like tons of fun!
ReplyDeleteGreat to meet these wonderful family members of yours!
ReplyDeleteIf I may ask your opinion, as a former teacher yourself, which do you think is a more productive / preferable schedule of the two - 9 months of school & 3 months off as we do it in MN, or basically all year round with vacations as the AZ public schools do it?
Not all AZ public schools are on a modified year round schedule. Some have the full 3 months of and no fall break. My childrens' school district has a modified year schedule. 2 weeks off in Oct. 2 weeks off in Dec. 2 weeks off in March then 9 weeks off in the summer. Data shows our students loose less in the summer.
