Spring Fling
It was early spring a couple of years ago and I had made every effort to get my big puppy Baron to water retrieve. He wasn't at all keen about diving into fast running trout streams. A local deserted State Park with a nice sandy beach finally did the trick .... sort of. He made some nice retrieves till he got back to shore, whereupon he attacked the stick relentlessly. Pawing, biting and barking at it. As near as I could figure he must have thought it was a snake. GSD's are known for their intellignece. Sure!

what a cute boy...
ReplyDeleteWe feel rather guilty that we rarely let our dogs swim in lakes. But we do let them wade in our little creek. Loved Baron and his stick.
ReplyDeleteAwww, German Shepherds are the smartest dogs around! I bet Baron knew exactly what he was doing! He's such a pretty boy.
ReplyDeleteHe just didn't want you to throw it again! He is pretty smart! Happy Easter to you and Mrs. T:)
ReplyDeleteDid he ever bring you the stick? Too funny.
ReplyDeleteSounds like something my dogs would do! lol
ReplyDeleteThis was such a treat!!! Way to go Baron!! My Harry would never have gone in the water; but my first GSD...Oh my... he would have taken a swim to China if I let him!
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter to you all!

Hey, you can't fool me. Fur or no fur, that water is c-o-l-d!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy don't YOU go in.
Signed, Baron.
He could put a Lab to shame with that swimming ability. Cute video.
ReplyDeleteGood old Baron! Scout loves retrieving sticks in water too.
ReplyDeleteThe sound of Baron breathing reminds me of how I sound after doing something strenuous!
ReplyDeleteWanted to thank you for dropping in and leaving a comment! Have you ever considered enabling your email?
Thanks again! Happy Easter!
I think Baron was just playing with you.
ReplyDeleteGunny sends his best regards to Baron!

Our border collie is still that way with the ball. He will bring it back but won't let go of it. He was a sheltered dog with some history of abuse so he is cared of a frisbee and thinks we are throwing things at him.
ReplyDeleteHaha ~ I love it!!! Baron ~ you are adorable! Hmmm...and it looks like you got the best of that stick. ;)
ReplyDeleteHope you all had a happy Easter!

Love Baron! He's quite a handsome dog! I enjoyed the video. Happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteNow, really, would you want to jump in that cold water for a dumb old stick? Poor baby!
ReplyDeleteBut it is funny how some dogs are retrievers, some aren't. Some are swimmers, some aren't. Just like us!
Don't you know he was trying to destroy that stick so that you would NEVER throw it out there again? I'd say he is very intelligent!
ReplyDeleteI very much enjoyed this video. Baron reminds me a lot of my Rambo.
