Yes we were very busy this spring with these yellow flowers taking over our front lawn. And inspired by my oldest grandsons bumper sticker, "MAKE AMERICA GREEN AGAIN" MS. T. and I attacked them with a vengeance the old fashioned way by digging them out one at a time. No 24D herbicide for use. We've also been slowly getting rid of turf (lawns) by encouraging native woodland wildflower beds. A few highlights follow .....
Yellow Lady Slipper (a native orchid)
Last but not least, on the edge of the woods, the somewhat rare but very vibrant yellow/orange Hoary Pucoon.
Love the yellow lady slippers.
ReplyDeleteHi TB - that's good to see ... love the Hoary Pucoon - what a name ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteWild flowers are lovely. I allowed them to invade my garden (not the lawn) and was greeted by a splendid display. I don't think I have ever come across a Hoary Pucoon, though.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea. I wish you success.
ReplyDeleteThe burn areas from last fall are really filling in
ReplyDeleteI admire your fortitude in digging up those dandelions!
ReplyDeleteI used up all my words last time. Nice pictures! Glad you're staying in shape.
ReplyDeleteA Hoary Pucoon … sounds suspicious to me !
ReplyDeleteYour Yellow Lady Slippers are beautiful! We have lots of Hoary Pucoon up here! I gave up on the dandys...I just let them bloom for the bees:)
ReplyDeleteHoary Pucoon is a new one to me!
ReplyDeleteI have turned several part of my acreage to ferns of several varieties. And this year I found a new variety- Anthyrium Pictum - Japanese Painted Fern... It is beautiful! I have planted it with some red caladium and deep, deep red coleus. Takes my breath away! Try to find some!
I've always wanted to see Yellow Ladyslippers. I've only see the pink ones. I had never heard of Hoary Puccoon. A pretty flower.
