Florida Birding - Part Two

Having seen some great birds upon our arrival at the resort after dinner we headed back down towards the beach area.  Sure enough, Mrs. T immediately spotted a Great Blue Heron along the breakwall.   After posing for a picture, the large wader flew off to land on some pilings, whereupon a Laughing Gull landed on top of it.  Strange....
Walking further down along the breakwater we came to a small harbor filled with boats.  Picking out the largest one,  Mrs. T suggested her semi-poverty stricken retired teacher husband consider buying a similar  one. Spotting a small Green Heron perched on a rope right below them, he quickly changed the subject.

  1. I went to Florida and found lots of beer. Tracked everyone of 'em down, too.

There sure are a lot of birds along Florida's Forgotten Coast.

  4. The only downside to birding in Florida in the winter is that the Swallowtail Kites are not back yet- I envy your trip, though. Here, we have to be content with titmice!

Though I did see a yellow-rumped warbler the other day-

  5. It is fun to get so close to the herons, where up here they are more afraid.

  7. I have never seen anything like that gull/heron shot. Its not like there was no other place for the gull to land. Hope you get to see some Sandhill Cranes. They are my favorite Florida visitor.

  8. They're an interesting bird. Their brain seems pretty slow but their beak is like lightening.

  10. RoadDog's comment made me choke on my morning coffee. Too funny. Now about that little suggestion from Mrs. T, well just sell everything and buy the boat...got to keep the little lady happy, that's my advice.

  11. In that second to last photo, it looks like a gull is perched on the back of that Heron! But I'm sure he's just on the next post down. Interesting visual though.
