On a more somber note we visited the original gravesite of the great Sioux chieftain, Tatanka Iyotake (Sitting Bull) on the Standing Rock reservation.
Later, we toured Fort Lincoln on the Missouri River. This was George Armstrong Custer's
last post before he and the 7th Cavalry headed west to the valley of the Little Big Horn river.
Here a flock of tourists prepare to visit Custer's residence on the post.
My residential preference though leaned towards The Maltese Cross, Theodore Roosevelt's first ranch in the Badlands.....:)
history and sadness.
ReplyDeleteNeat! Thanks for the pictures and taking me along on your journey. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm with Mrs. T, there are definitely certain amenities I require, too.
ReplyDeleteOh ya, I'm right there with Mrs. T. as well. There are certain amenities I cannot, and will not, do without! Thanks for the tour!
ReplyDeleteThree homes so different. Custer's house seems a tad stuffy:)
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying your visits. I keep learning things as I follow.
ReplyDeleteI'm also with Ms T. Won't sleep on the ground anymore and won't hike to the outhouse (or worse). Looks like such a good trip.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you! I LOVE old cabins. That one looks like a nice one.
ReplyDeleteThose teepees have a lot of room.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures ---of a wonderful trip...Believe I'd pass on the 'rental' also....ha ha...
ReplyDeleteWe want to go back to the Black Hills area again. There's so much we didn't see the first time.
Hugs,
Betsy
If it is for a short time, I don't need amenities. That teepee would do just fine.
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat place, full of history. The Indian part would interest me the most.
Nice job holding that cabin up.
This is a wonderful area. We are considering a trip to South Dakota next summer.
ReplyDeleteLots of history in your travels. Immersing yourself in all these spots will be great when you settle down to read your history books this winter about the west. -- barbara
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking us along on your adventures. It's fun to see new places and learn a bit as we go along.
ReplyDeletethere's a lot of interesting history in that area. I think your wife would like tipi accommodations!
ReplyDeleteI join the others on the question of amenities. However, I wouldn't mind a peek inside the teepee.
ReplyDeleteInteresting post, as always.
He had a nice home. Too bad for him that he decided on that outing.
ReplyDeleteI can see why Mrs. T rejected that rental property! haha Thanks for the virtual tour; we'll have to go there some day!
ReplyDeleteIf only Sitting Bull and his people had thought to offer the colonizers employment as singers and dancers and thereby possibly dissuaded them from more land intensive occupations like farming and ranching and gold mining.
ReplyDeleteThanks for these entertaining and insightful glimpses of our nation. You two sure do a lot of galavantin'.
I hope to take our boys on this tour someday.
ReplyDeleteCute about Mrs. T. :-)
I love it! How fun and interesting. I have to agree with your wife though. The teepee lacks certain amenities that I prefer in a house. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun, I would love to visit here, and the caves. Someday I'll be retired too, and can explore the world like I've always wanted to!
ReplyDeleteUntil then, I'll just enjoy your trip reports!
