So sure enough, Mrs. T. and I took a trip toot Daloot last fall. It was a glorious weekend.
Access to the Duluth Harbor
The old time "lift bridge" no longer the main connection to Superior, Wisconsin.
Once huge ore carriers brought Minnesota iron ore to Eastern steel mills. Now taconite serves as well as grain to markets around the world.
Later that afternoon the lady in the blue coat and I took Skyline Parkway up to Hawk Ridge overlooking Duluth. Here many thousands of raptors and other birds funnel around gigantic Lake Superior in their fall migration to warmer climes southward.
You two find the neatest adventures! The weather that day looked marvelous.
ReplyDeleteSo much to see, so many places to visit, and good weather too. That's my idea of a day out, especially with beautiful birds to watch.
ReplyDeleteI laughed when I finally figure out what "Daloot" is. Toot Daloot indeed. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove that old pic.
ReplyDeleteSpent one night in Duluth in a very awful motel, which seemed to be the last room in town.
Octaleever! That's the best ore boat picture I ever seen. No little shi shosh you!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Look at the crowd of birdwatchers!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful day you got to enjoy. I was stunned to see the amount of bald eagles spotted. I saw my first one in 77.5 years just the other day and we were about 30 feet apart as he stood in a pasture by the road. I still get goosebumps.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny, it was always pronounced Daloot by my grandma's generation, too. We went "up to Daloot" every summer! It's so wonderful how the eagles have made a come-back. We saw one near the beach eating something in a ditch this morning.
ReplyDeleteHello, looks like a beautiful place to visit. I love the lighthouse. Lovely views of the water. Happy Monday, enjoy your new week!
ReplyDeleteI love going to Hawk Ridge but we did not go this year!
ReplyDeleteHave you heard about Ole and Lena? Well you see they got married and left on their honeymoon. As they were driving along Ole put his hand on Lens's knee...she said "Ole you can go further than that" He replied "I know we are headed to Daloot" :)
Your ventures are always so interesting to me because they are in areas that I've never been. Too late to do the actual traveling so I'll enjoy them vicariously through you! Thanks.
