I had given up hunting upland game and waterfowl do to my increasing vertigo. Mrs. T informed me that walking in the woods, sloughs and plowed cornfields and falling with a loaded shotgun was not a good idea. The days of hunting with my retrievers were over. It was time to move in a different direction. The pups name was Baron. He was destined to be a giant GSD and my best buddy ever.

Helluva dog, Ray. We get dogs like that, if we're lucky, once in a lifetime. Glad you had one. I did too, and he was a GRS too, named 'Kim', about the same size.

DeleteA beautiful dog, and he would have been the same no matter where his ears went.
ReplyDeleteGo ahead, call Mike. His ears are OK, too.
Hi Ray - gorgeous shots of Baron ... wonderful memories for you - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteLovely memories of your dear Baron. We are so fortunate to have these wonderful friends in our lives even if we lose them all too soon.
ReplyDeleteWonderful that when one chapter of life closed, Baron and you opened another great chapter.
ReplyDeleteWhat a handsome dog! Looks like you two shared many wonderful adventures together.
ReplyDeleteBaron was such a cute puppy, and then a big, handsome dog. I didn’t know GSs were born with their ears down and they stand up later. Good thing he grew into the size of them, too!
ReplyDeletehe was a good friend to you and I know you miss him everyday. What a cute puppy he was!
ReplyDeleteDear Troutbirder, when Dulcy died, the cat who was my "Baron," she gave me these words: "At the end, all that matters is love. My love for my human and hers for me. I have planted the memories of our life together in her heart. She will find them there when I am gone and they will comfort her."
ReplyDeleteI trust that your memories of such a wonderful friend and companion and buddy comfort you. Peace.
There's always a great one in the history of family dogs and Baron was truly your "great one".
ReplyDeleteThe great things that dogs give us makes our lives so worth while. I miss my dog everyday and I am sure your memories are there too.
ReplyDeleteThese are great photos of Baron. What wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beauty … oops, I guess a handsome fellow like that wouldn't care for "beauty" but I'll say it again. Truly a Handsome beauty !
ReplyDeleteEven a non dog person like me can see the appeal here.
